Frozen Pipes, Remodeled Bathroom!
Scroll down to the bottom and work your way upward to view the progress of this job.

In mid-January, our basement pipes froze, as they do every winter. This year we decided to re-route them through different walls in an effort to permanently correct the problem. The result was that we had to tear up portions of the walls of our hideous basement bathroom, which of course led us to the idea that we could remodel it ourselves. You can watch our progress here, as we attempt to completely renovate this room with our own four hands (and a little help from our friends).

While Caite and Mackenzie were at the beach for Labor Day Weekend, Daddy stayed home and installed the furniture into the bathroom. It's looking good! We're going to have a little help with tiling the shower stall in a few weeks...one of Jay's friends has generously offered us a pro to get the job done!

Jayson's brother Geoff graciously offered to help us work on the floor tile during his visit with us in July. This room is shaping up!

It's been a while since we updated our progress, but Jayson has done a ton of work down there. This is the bathroom with its first coat of paint. Once we get the second coat on, we can begin tiling the floor:

    There's no turning back now!!

The paint color we've selected - Ralph Lauren's Parchment.

The hardware we've selected - we'll have matching towel racks, TP holders, lighting, and shower/tub faucets.

The tile up against the vanity that we plan to get, unless we find a better one. The vanity comes with a black or white top, and it seems like the white will go best with the room.

This is the tile we've pretty much decided on. The floor will be slightly darker than the shower walls. There is no natural light in this room, so we want to keep it light and warm.

You are looking at the other side of our laundry room. The sheets were hung to prevent the cat from venturing into the space underneath the stairs.

Jayson chisels away at the floor tile. Not long after this, we decided that the shower tile had to be replaced as well. It would be too difficult to find a nice floor tile that would complement all that pink.

January 18: Caite & Mackenzie come home from a trip to VA Beach to discover that a giant hole has been cut out of the wall so the pipes could be accessed. Within three minutes of this picture being taken, we decide to re-tile the room.

2005: The bathroom as it looked when we first saw the house. Pale pink tiles, awful  builder-grade vanity and floor tile. Not the most cozy or attractive room in the house.
